Online Version of The Arunachal Times?

No..., don't jump to any conclusion yet.

What do you do to satiate your hunger to keep abreast of latest happenings around the world? Read the paper, watch news channels or log on to the net-these are the obvious things you would do, right. But what if, you wanted to know about the latest happenings of the State Arunachal Pradesh? Grab The Arunachal Times or Echo of Arunachal or Dawnlit Post-all published from Itanagar, of course. But the matter of fact is that when there is 'bandh' or some other transportation problem you wouldn't get chance to lay your hands on the paper for quite a few days at stretch (the dailies being dispatched from Itanagar, reaches Ziro in the evening) and not to forget the peoples staying outside the state, who has altogether no access to the local dailies. And you can't think of news channels, as all you get is news about metros. So, I wondered, if the State dailies has any online presence?

Surprise! Surprise! when I Googled the key word " Arunachal Times" I got this (see the snap shot below)

"G-R-E-A-T", I shouted, now people from this state studying or working outside the state would be able to keep abreast of the happenings of the state. But wait, to my horror when I clicked the link I got this (snapshot below) (what do you think about the sites look?) which has most of the link non-functional. May be the site is in developmental stage.

So, till the site is fully developed, which I hope would be developed soon, the people would have to make do with the conventional ways, as they did before to know about the happenings of the state, country and the world.

hello......i m also from arunachal .even though i belong to Chakma community, i always keep updates od news in Arunachal. its so shamefull for all of us Aruachalees that the only local newspaper in our state can't report news online in the 21st century. just imagine how much we are lagging behind. instead of bringing development the politicians are more interested in power war also making noise on the deportion of Chakma- hajong from the state........

Hi I am from Guwahati, can anyone please tell me where the office of Dawnlit Post is located?

  • Jayanta Deka

    a good point..!
I am from Namsai and now in Durgapur, West Bengal doing media studies. Whenever somone ask about the latest from Arunachal, I have to search the Assam tribune portal and whatever information I get, I used to convey. But that is not adequate... If Arunachal could hav a portal newspaper then it would b the best for som1 like us....

    A good point to make...

    Cheers..!

how long we have to depend upon the Assam tribute for the Portal news...its better to have separate for the Arunachal . being a biggest among the north eastern state ,i think its shameful for us.

  • AG

    Mobin,

You shouldn't be. Being exposed to net quite late than rest of the country, I guess we are making inroad into this wild wild web quite fast with Arunachal Times and Arunachal Epitome going online. Besides, Arunachal Front has also made inroad into the net, though it is yet to populate the page with contents. Then there is your very own Arunachal Diary. So cheer up :)

  • sogimuri

how far behind arunachal is...since i m reading comments posted in 2008 today. My suggestion...let's share constructive ideas not the divisive & destructive once.

  • AG

    @anonymous,
Why don't you try Arunachal Epitome or Arunachal News or Veracity-Roing News"?

  • Anonymous

    Dear David,
You need not be ashamed of the current status of local dailies, owe allegiance to own soil, not to temp nest. Spongers need be happy whatever the parahost feeds. Can you explain what is meant by power war in a single party governed state? Also, can you Kindly link why should be there any link between media web casting and the political leaders? Can you also substantiate when political leaders used the high sounding word of "deporting Chakma-Hajongs from the state"? Do not politicize nor politicalise the issue.Lead your community back. Why do imposters are beyond shamelessness

    Hi
In Arunachal pradesh, many tribes had migrated from burma like simphoo, khamte etc. They should also be considered as refugee as they had migrated with the permission of either state gov or central govt of India.Similarly Chakma and hajons are also migrated with the consent of our central govt of India. Chakmas are not a refugee. As they have legally permitted to stay in any part of India by the central govet in 1964. For all of your kind information, chakmas are Indian origin and chakmas are Indian by blood, by born, by origin. Only thing is that as we all know that our country had partitioned and the partition of India had created a lot more problem to many Indian like Chakmas, Punjabi/hindus, and when they came back to their own motherland like India they seem to be called refugees. why is it so ? During British rule, the chakma people had also fought against Britishers to kick them out from India, and there are lots more chakmas freedom fighters when you go and ask from chakmas very Old man.
My request is that do not call chakmas as refugee. And many of chakmas in Arunachal pradesh have already been enjoying their voting right in Arunachal Pradesh.

We are making an audio video series based on life & living of geographical & climatic challenged areas.
We would like to include some places of North Arunachal Pradesh like Gelling, Mayudia, Dong etc for the above concept.
Because of typical geographical, social & economical background, there life & livings are different from
other part of the country & this stimulates us to know more about them.
We are interested to come across the real & traditional lifestyle of the local people of the above areas.
We are interested to visit all such those places in this month only. But, The only problem we are facing is insurgency in the above areas.
Even we are small & not supported & funded by any of the govts, We could be easy target for them.
We are looking forward from Arunachalee, especially the local people to help us to make an audio video series from their areas.
We await for your further communication in this matter.

    Dear Anonymous.
Truth is always bitter to digest. If you are so against Chakmas, why don't you come out open (at least in cyberspace) and put your views? why showing yourself up as an anonymous?
What do u mean by "owe allegiance to own soil"?
Who knows from where your forefathers from before the modern state of India was formed?
I only owe allegiance to the land i am born and that is where i want to die. I don't care where my forefathers were from.
It is only a matter of time.Time is what that makes difference and it is the only thing that differentiate you from me.

  • hiramonichakma

    dear Annynomous
why you always backbite on people. I have never seen hgorrible people as you are . YOu cant do anything to Chakmas or Hajongs. It is not in our hands. the status will judge by the Laws. So i suggest be cautious about your words. Too much barking is not good. Have some sumpathy. SEE.. i myself dont belong to Arunachal, yet i feel very disturbed when you comment on us like that way.

hi dear chakmas. how u guys doing. i know what happenned in 1960's the chakmas and hajongs were driven from east pakistan by their muslim rulers and the govt. of india allowed them to settle in various parts of north east as refugees. the fact is that the then PM MR. NEHRU accepted them as refugees and expected them to leave the land as soon situation became normal. now things have changed the population of indigenous tribes of north east has multiplied we have our on ambitions aspiration and needs.our govt. cant feed additional hungry mouths of chakmas.dear chakmas if you want a better life then go back and fight for your rights back in bangladesh. how long will you run?

kindly dont post any blog in regards to those refugees like chakmas or what called hajongs for the better interest of the state.Because of this illegal settlers people of arunachal pradesh hav face lot of mental unrest for last 2-3 decades. secondly whatever i hav seen here about those comments posted by artificial self stylied citizens (chakmas n hajongs)are totally goes against our arunachalee people.i myself belongs from lohit where those refugees were given shelters would like to draw some attentions to bloggers that this refugees r involved in mamy anti social elements like smuggling of arms from neighbouring countries, murder n destroying those reserve forest of arunachal pradesh.I sincerly request the editor to delete some comments which r still posted here as it can create a trouble in near future.
