11th April 2002, with much fanfare, foundation stone for District Sports Complex was laid by the then Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs to upgrade the General Ground (Subansiri Stadium) into a stadium. It was speculated that on completion of this stadium, not only Zonal Level Tournament but a District and State Level Event would be organised in this stadium, which would bring in spectators from places other than Ziro booming the economy of this township. Besides, it was felt that the local sports team would get better infrastructure facility to hone their talent. So, everyone was enthusiastically waiting for this Sports Complex to come up.
Move on to year 2006, where is the 'District Sports Complex'? Hasn't it seen the day yet? It has been 4 & 1/2 years since laying of foundation stone, nothing has changed except for the foundation stone which is on the verge of collapsing (somehow prevented by the shed), spectators gallery whose ceiling seems to fall down if not attended and not to forget the overall condition of the football ground which has never been good. See for yourself...
